New Toll House Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/8 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. white sugar
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1/4 tsp. hot water
    chocolate chips
    1 c. rolled oats
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream shortening, adding sugars gradually until light and fluffy.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition (for more than one recipe).
    Add hot water, then sifted dry ingredients.
    Add chocolate chips, oats and vanilla and blend thoroughly.
    Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 6 to 8 minutes.
    Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
