Turtle Cake - cooking recipe

1 (18.5 oz.) box German chocolate cake mix
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels, unwrapped
1 small (5 oz.) can evaporated milk
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 (12 oz.) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions.
Pour half of batter into greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake 15 minutes.
While cake is baking, melt caramels with milk and butter in microwave oven or double boiler, stirring until smooth. Pour caramel mixture over partially baked cake.
Spread evenly. Sprinkle chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of pecans over caramel mixture.
Pour remaining cake batter over top, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with remaining pecans.
Bake 40 minutes or until center is set.
Cool before slicing.
