Clouds At Sunrise - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 egg whites
    3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. crushed soda crackers (24)
    3/4 c. nuts, chopped
    2 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. frozen whipped topping, thawed
    1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Beat egg whites until frothy; add cream of tartar, then gradually add sugar.
    Beat until stiff peaks form.
    Fold in crushed crackers, nuts and vanilla.
    Spread in well buttered 9 x 13 x 2-inch glass baking dish.
    Bake for 25 minutes. Cool in pan on rack.
    When cool, spread thawed whipped topping over crust.
    Spoon cherry pie filling over whipped topping.
    Cover and refrigerate.
