Easy Old Fashioned Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 c. dry yellow split peas
2 1/2 c. water
2 (10 oz. each) cans condensed chicken broth, undiluted
2 c. coarsely chopped, cooked ham (I use ham shanks)
1 c. chopped carrots
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. chopped celery
2 Tbsp. butter
3 c. milk
salt and pepper
croutons
chopped parsley
Preparation

Wash peas and place in a large saucepan.
Add water, chicken broth, ham shanks, carrots, onion, celery and butter to peas. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat.
Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Stir in milk.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish with croutons and parsley.
