Mildred'S Cucumber Pickle - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 tsp. salt (not iodized)
4 tsp. alum
2 tsp. pickling spice
1 tsp. turmeric
cucumbers
vinegar
5 lb. sugar
Preparation

Slice cucumbers and pack tightly in gallon jug.
Mix first four ingredients with enough vinegar to cover cucumbers.
Let stand 4 to 6 weeks. Drain brine off good and put 5 pounds of sugar over cucumbers in jug.
Let stand.
Keep shaking and turning jug until sugar melts.
Will pull enough vinegar out of cucumbers to cover them.
Chill and enjoy.
