Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. split peas
    6 c. water
    4 c. chicken broth
    1/4 lb. ham
    3/4 c. celery (some leaves)
    2 leeks
    1 large onion
    2 1/2 c. potatoes
    1 1/2 c. carrots
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    dash of hot pepper sauce
    1 tsp. thyme
Preparation
    Combine peas and water. Boil 2 minutes. Rest from heat 1 hour. Add all but potatoes and carrots. Simmer 1 1/2 hours. Add potatoes and carrots. Cook 30 minutes.
