Ingredients

2/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. orange juice
2 Tbsp. grated orange rind
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Mix shortening, sugar and egg thoroughly. Stir in orange juice and rind.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Stir dry ingredients together; blend in.
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until delicately browned on edges.
Frost with icing.
Makes 4 dozen 2-inch cookies.
