Ingredients

2 onions, sliced
1 c. butter
1 c. rice
a few raisins
a few almonds, slivered
a few cardamon seed
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
salt and pepper
1 pinch saffron, powdered
Preparation

Brown onions lightly in melted butter.
Add rice, stirring constantly until the rice absorbs the butter.
Add raisins, almonds and all other ingredients except saffron.
Add just enough water to cover the mixture, then cover the pan and allow to simmer over a low flame until rice is tender.
When rice is almost done, add saffron.
Pour mixture into a buttered baking dish and place into an oven for about 10 minutes.
Serve hot.
