Irish Soda Bread - cooking recipe

1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. quick cooking Irish oatmeal
1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 Tbsp. cold unsalted butter, cut into bits
Preparation

Mix dry ingredients well and blend in the unsalted butter until mixture resembles meal. In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and lightly beaten egg.
Stir this mixture into the flour mixture and form into a ball.
Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface until it is smooth.
Transfer it to a buttered baking sheet and form it into an 8-inch round.
Cut a 1/2-inch deep X in the center of the loaf with a shape knife dipped in flour.
Cut should come to within 1-inch of edges.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
Transfer to a rack and serve warm or at room temperature.
