Karo Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 lb. butter or oleo
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. milk
    1 1/2 c. Karo syrup
    1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 lb. walnuts, chopped fine
Preparation
    Melt butter, sugar and syrup.
    Add 1 cup milk and cream of tartar.
    Cook fast, stirring and adding remaining milk, 1 cup at a time, about every 5 minutes.
    Cook slow until crack stage (248\u00b0). Fold in nuts.
    Pour in greased cookie sheet.
    Cool.
    Cut with scissors.
    Wrap in waxed paper.
    Twist ends.
