Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 2/3 c. cake flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cover dates with boiling water; cool to lukewarm.
    Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
    Add date mixture, then sifted dry ingredients; beat well.
    Add chopped nuts.
    Bake in waxed paper lined 8-inch square cake pan at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
