Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

1 c. chopped pitted dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 egg
3/4 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 Tbsp. melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Pour the boiling water over dates and let stand. Beat egg until light. Add the sugar gradually. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Add dates and flour alternately into egg mixture. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla. Pour in 8 x 8 pan or 2 bread tins, greased. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350\u00b0.
