Portuguese Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 qt. water
    1 envelope brown gravy mix
    3/4 c. chopped ham
    2 1/2 c. chopped celery
    1 1/2 c. sliced carrots
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    15 oz. tomatoes or juice
    3 c. chopped cabbage
    1/2 c. macaroni
    2 cans red beans
    3/4 lb. smoked sausage
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients, in a large covered kettle, except macaroni, cabbage and beans.
    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to hard simmer.
    When meat is tender and done, add cabbage, macaroni and beans (undrained).
    A bay leaf can be added, but is optional. Salt and pepper to taste.
