Westhaven Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 lb. dates
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
2 Tbsp. cocoa
salt
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts

Preparation

Mix dates, soda and water and let cool.
Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten eggs.
Add date mixture and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Sift flour, cocoa and salt.
Stir together.
Sprinkle on top chocolate chips and nut meats.
Bake 45 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven.
