German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

4 oz. German sweet chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. margarine or butter
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks (unbeaten)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites
Preparation

Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water; cool.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg yolks, one at a time.
Add chocolate and vanilla; mix well.
Sift flour, soda and salt together; add alternately with buttermilk, beating until smooth. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into batter.
Grease and flour 3 (9-inch) cake pans. Pour batter into pans; bake for 30 to 40 minutes in a 350\u00b0 oven.
Frost with Coconut Pecan Frosting.
