Tomato-Cheese Strata - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 loaf Italian bread, cut in 1-inch thick slices
6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 medium green pepper, diced
1/3 c. chopped onion
2 tsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. pepper
6 to 8 medium tomatoes, sliced
16 oz. Mozzarella cheese, cut into 1 x 2-inch strips
Preparation

In skillet, heat butter, green pepper, onion, sugar, salt, pepper and oregano for about 10 minutes.
Toast bread at 400\u00b0 until lightly browned.
Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Place bread in dish, spoon half of mixture over bread.
Arrange overlapping rows of tomato and cheese over mixture.
Spoon remaining mixture on top.
Cover dish with foil and bake at 400\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Uncover and bake 6 minutes longer.
