Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. light syrup
    1/2 c. cold water
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine ingredients and cook over low heat, stirring only until sugar dissolves (soft ball stage).
    In a bowl, beat 2 egg whites stiff and pour 1/2 of the cooked syrup mixture over while beating. Keep stirring egg whites and syrup mixture while cooking remainder of syrup to hard ball stage.
    Pour hard ball syrup over egg white mixture and add vanilla.
    Keep beating until stiff; add chopped nuts, if desired.
    Beat mixture until thick.
    Drop by tablespoons onto waxed paper to cool.
    If stored in layers, put wax paper between layers.
