Spanish Pickles (Green Tomatoes) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 large onions
    1 c. salt
    12 green peppers
    6 cloves garlic, optional
    1 peck green tomatoes
    2 qt. cider vinegar
    6 red peppers
    4 lb. brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. dry mustard
    1 stick cinnamon
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    2 Tbsp. powdered ginger
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Skin onions and tomatoes and slice thin.
    Sprinkle with salt and let stand 12 hours.
    Wash in clear water.
    Drain and add vinegar and sugar, heated to boiling with chopped peppers and garlic.
    Add remaining ingredients and cook slowly until transparent, about 1 hour.
    Stir often.
    Pour in hot jars and seal.
