Ingredients

2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
3 Tbsp. molasses
Preparation

Combine dry ingredients.
Cream the shortening, butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg and molasses; blend well.
Add dry ingredients gradually; mix well.
Chill.
Shape into 1-inch balls. Dip tops in granulated sugar.
Flatten slightly; place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
