Cherry Turnover Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    4 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 can cherry pie filling
Preparation
    Cream sugar and butter; add eggs and vanilla, then mix flour with baking powder.
    Put 2/3 of the batter in a 12 x 15-inch bar pan and cover with 1 can cherry pie filling mixed with 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
    Drop
    remaining 1/3 batter by teaspoons on top of cherry mixture.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
    Frosting is optional.
