Jam Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. each: cloves, cinnamon and allspice
    4 eggs, separated
    1 c. buttermilk
    pinch of salt
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. butter
    1 tsp. soda
    3 c. sifted cake flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. jam (any flavor)
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar; add spices, then add egg yolks, well beaten.
    Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add alternately with flour.
    Add salt, vanilla, nuts and jam.
    Fold in beaten egg whites.
    Pour into large (9 x 13 x 2 1/2-inch) loaf pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 50 minutes.
    Ice with your favorite caramel icing.
