Butterscotch Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. dark brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 c. dark corn syrup
    1/4 c. water
    1/4 c. butter
    1/3 c. light cream or evaporated milk
    dash of salt
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine brown sugar, corn syrup, water and butter in saucepan. Bring to boil and cool, stirring occasionally, to soft ball stage (236\u00b0 on candy thermometer).
    This takes about 4 minutes.
    Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
    Add cream, salt and vanilla. Beat well.
    Serve warm or cold over ice cream.
