Ingredients

1/2 c. butter or Crisco
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
a little salt
1/2 c. nut meats, broken in pieces
Preparation

Work butter or Crisco until creamy.
Add brown sugar and, when well blended, add egg.
Mix well and add vanilla.
Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and a little salt; add to first mixture.
Mix well and add nut meats.
Pack in a small bread pan, or form into a roll and chill in refrigerator.
Cut off as needed and bake 8 minutes in a hot (400\u00b0) oven.
