Self Frosting Date Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/4 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. brown sugar
Preparation

Pour boiling water and 1 teaspoon soda over dates; set aside. Cream together the sugar, 3/4 teaspoon soda, shortening, salt and eggs; mix thoroughly.
Add date mixture and flour.
Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
