Mother'S Specialty - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. boiling water
    2 1/4 c. plain flour
    1 egg
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 Tbsp. shortening
Preparation
    Put dates, sugar and shortening into a bowl; over this pour boiling water.
    Let cool.
    Sift flour with other dry ingredients; add nuts and mix well.
    Pour the first mixture into the flour and mix until free of lumps.
    Add beaten egg.
    Pour into a greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for about 45 minutes.
