Shaker Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    20 pickles
    20 onions
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    3 c. white vinegar
    1/3 c. salt
    1 tsp. alum
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Slice the pickles and onions.
    Mix the sugar and vinegar, also the salt, alum, celery seed and turmeric.
    Do not heat vinegar and spices.
    Pour mixture over the onions and pickles.
    Place in jar in refrigerator. Shake once a day for 6 days while kept in the refrigerator for 3 months. Add 1 tablespoon of mixed pickling spice for taste.
