Irish Soda Bread - cooking recipe

4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 Tbsp. caraway seeds
1/4 c. butter or oleo
1 1/3 c. buttermilk
2 c. raisins
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg yolk or a little cream
Preparation

Grease 2 quart casserole.
Into mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Stir in caraway seeds.
With pastry blender, cut in butter until coarse.
Stir in raisins. Combine buttermilk, egg and soda; stir into flour until just moistened.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.
Knead until smooth; shape into ball.
Place in casserole 4 inches deep in center.
Brush with beaten egg yolk.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 1 hour 10 minutes.
Cool before slicing.
