Red Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    2 c. lime
    1 c. vinegar
    1/2 bottle red food coloring
    1 Tbsp. alum
    2 c. white vinegar
    2 c. cold water
    10 cinnamon sticks
    10 c. sugar
    19 oz. red hots candy
Preparation
    Peel cucumbers 1/2-inch thick.
    Soak 24 hours in lime to 2 gallons water.
    Rinse lime off and soak 2 hours in cold water, then drain.
    Mix 1 cup vinegar, red food coloring and alum.
    Put in enough water to cover pickles and simmer for 1 hour, then drain.
    Mix remaining ingredients.
    Heat to boiling and pour over pickles and let stand overnight.
    Heat for 3 days and on the third day, put into jars and seal.
