My Inspiration Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/4 c. self-rising flour, sifted
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
    5 egg whites
    3/4 c. sweet milk
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    2 oz. German sweet chocolate, grated
    1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Cream sugar and shortening for batter.
    Add egg whites and mix well.
    Add flour, sweet milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) cake pans.
    Cover bottom of pans with chopped pecans.
    Pour 1/4 of batter over pecans in each pan; sprinkle grated chocolate on top of batter in each pan.
    Carefully add remaining batter over chocolate in each pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
