Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    30 medium sized cucumbers
    8 large white onions
    1/2 c. canning salt
    5 c. white vinegar
    5 c. granulated sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Wash
    cucumbers;
    slice
    as
    thin
    as
    possible (do not peel). Chop onions.
    Add to cucumbers; cover with cold water. Add canning
    salt.
    Let stand 3 hours.\tDrain.\tCombine vinegar, sugar
    and spices in a large cooking kettle.
    Bring to a boil. Add
    cucumbers.
    Heat thoroughly; do not boil.
    Pack in hot jars. Seal at once.
    Hot water bath for 15 minutes.
