Ingredients

1 c. vegetable oil
1 c. butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
4 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
sugar (for coating)
Preparation

Thoroughly cream oil, butter and both sugars.
Add vanilla and eggs.
Sift dry ingredients into creamed mixture and mix well. Chill the dough before shaping.
Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
With spoonful of dough, roll into ball.
Roll each ball into granulated sugar or colored sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Press a crisscross design on top of each cookie using a fork.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Dough may be kept in refrigerator for several days.
