Mama'S Caramel Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    8 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg, well beaten
    3/4 c. milk
Preparation
    Cook 1/2 cup sugar in black skillet until melted and golden. Mix egg, butter and remainder of sugar with milk in a heavy boiler and cook over medium heat until butter melts.
    Add caramelized sugar.
    Cook until soft ball can be formed in cold water.
    I use a candy thermometer and cook it to 232\u00b0.
    Add vanilla; beat.
