1 (3 lb. average) broiler/fryer
3 qt. water
1 Tbsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. milk or buttermilk
Preparation

Cook chicken with water and salt until tender.
Remove chicken from broth and cool.
Debone chicken and cut meat into bite size pieces.
Set aside.
Bring broth to a boil; add pepper.
Combine dry ingredients.
Cut in shortening until mix resembles meal.
Add milk to moisten.
Turn onto floured surface and knead 4 to 5 times.
Pat dough and roll into 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut into 2-inch strips and drop into boiling broth.
Leave strips covered with flour to thicken broth.
Reduce heat and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.
Add chicken.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
