American Beauty Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 oz. red food coloring
3 Tbsp. instant chocolate mix
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Preparation

Mix first 2 ingredients and let stand.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, 1 at a time, and coloring; beat well.
Add buttermilk, salt, vanilla and flour.
Beat well, remove from mixer. Add vinegar and baking soda by hand.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
Makes 3 layers or in loaf pans for grooms cake.
