Ingredients

1/2 c. butter (if using margarine, use 1 Tbsp. more)
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs
3 1/2 to 4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream the butter and shortening; add sugar and cream well. Add eggs and beat well.
Sift flour, soda and cream of tartar; add gradually, creaming well.
Add vanilla; cream well.
Chill dough 3 to 4 hours or overnight.
Roll out 1/4 inch on floured board. Bake at 350\u00b0 on ungreased cookie sheet 7 to 9 minutes.
