Whole Wheat Scones With Anise - cooking recipe

1/2 c. currants
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
3 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. anise seed
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening, margarine or butter
1 (8 oz.) sour cream
1 beaten egg yolk
1 slightly beaten egg white
1 tsp. anise seed (optional)
Preparation

In a small mixing bowl, pour enough hot water over currants to cover.
Let stand for 5 minutes.
Drain.
