Hansel And Gretel'S Gingerbread Treats(5 Dozen Cookies) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
1 egg
2 Tbsp. vinegar
5 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tsp. ginger (ground)
1 tsp. cinnamon (ground)
1 tsp. cloves (ground)

Preparation

Thoroughly cream shortening with sugar. Stir in egg, molasses and vinegar. Beat well. Stir together dry ingredients and blend into molasses mixture. Chill about 3 hours. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8-inch thick. Cut with a cookie cutter. Place 1-inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Use candy red hots for faces and buttons. Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for 5 minutes. Cool slightly, then move to racks for cooling. When cool, you can pipe trim on cookies.
