Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers
    7 c. sugar
    5 c. dark vinegar
    1/2 c. salt
    1/4 c. alum
    2 c. pickling lime
    2 gal. water
    1/2 box pickling spice
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers for 24 hours in lime water.
    Drain and soak four hours in salt water.
    Drain and rinse.
    Soak 2 hours in clear water.
    Cover with alum and water and bring to a rapid boil.
    Drain and rinse.
    Place in vinegar, sugar and spices.
    Cook 30 minutes. Pack in jars and pour juice over pickles.
    Seal.
