Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. powdered cloves
    1 c. seedless raisins, chopped
    1 c. walnuts, chopped
    1 c. sweetened fresh or canned applesauce
Preparation
    Work the shortening with the back of a spoon until fluffy and creamy.
    Gradually add sugar while continuing to work with a spoon until light.
    Add the egg; sift together the next 5 ingredients and combine with raisins and nuts.
    Heat applesauce to boiling point.
    Add gradually to sugar and flour mixture.
    Turn into about a 9 x 5 x 3-inch greased loaf pan.
    Bake in a moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
