Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. each: nutmeg, allspice and salt
Preparation

Cream together the sugar and shortening.
Add egg; beat well. Stir in molasses.
Sift and add alternately with buttermilk the flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and salt. Add additional flour to make dough stiff enough to handle.
Knead dough on a floured board.
Divide into 5 portions.
Pat each portion into greased and floured 9-inch pans.
Bake at 370\u00b0 for about 10 minutes.
Stack layers with fruit preserves, such as apple butter, and serve.
