Lentil And Barley Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1/3 c. chopped onion
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1 (1 lb.) can stewed tomatoes, mashed
    4 c. water
    1/2 c. lentils, rinse well
    1/3 c. barley
    1/8 tsp. rosemary leaves
    1/3 c. shredded carrots
Preparation
    Melt butter; cook onion and celery.
    Add tomatoes, water, lentils and barley (salt and pepper to taste).
    Cover tightly and boil gently for 45 minutes.
    Stir often.
    Add carrots and cook 5 minutes more.
    If thinner stew is desired, add 1 cup of water.
