Crunchy Lemon Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or margarine
    1/2 c. confectioners sugar
    1 c. flour
    2 egg yolks
    2 Tbsp. lemon peel
    2 egg whites
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cream the shortening and gradually add sugar; blend until light.
    Add egg yolks.
    Mix in flour and grated lemon peel. Spread evenly on the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch ungreased pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
    Then spread with lemon meringue topping made by beating the egg whites until stiff and gradually adding the sugar and lemon juice.
    Then add nuts and spread over the baked mixture.
    Bake for 25 minutes; cool slightly and cut into squares.
