Date Cake With Broiled Frosting(Very Good) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. soda
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Pour boiling water over dates and soda.
Let stand while mixing batter.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and beat again.
Add flour and salt alternately with dates mixture.
Add vanilla.
Bake in greased and floured pan.
As soon as baked, spread with icing mixture and broil until lightly brown.
