Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
Preparation

Cream shortening.
Gradually add 1 cup sugar.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Add egg and molasses.
Mix well.
Combine dry ingredients.
Add 1/4 of dry ingredients at a time, mixing until smooth each time.
Chill 1 hour.
Roll into balls.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 minutes. Yields 4 1/2 dozen cookies.
