Date Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. dates, cut up
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. shortening (heaping)
1 1/2 c. flour
1 egg

Preparation

Combine boiling water, soda and dates.
Cream sugar and shortening and add egg.
Stir in rest of ingredients and add date mixture last.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes in a greased and floured 9 x 9-inch pan.
