Old Time Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 medium onion, sliced
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    6 carrots, pared and quartered
    4 potatoes, pared and quartered
Preparation
    Brown beef in skillet with 2 tablespoons hot shortening.
    Add 2 cups hot water.
    Put in large boiler; add vegetables.
    Cover and cook 30 to 45 minutes or until meat and vegetables are tender.
