Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. soda
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. vegetable shortening or butter
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 large egg
    1/2 c. molasses
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
Preparation
    Sift 2 cups flour, ginger, soda, salt and baking powder together.
    Beat shortening (or butter) and sugar until creamy. Beat in eggs and then add molasses.
    Add 1/4 of dry ingredients at a time, alternately with buttermilk and remaining flour, a little at a time, until dough is stiff.
    Use hands if necessary.
    Heat oven to 375\u00b0.
    Grease and flour 4 (9-inch) layer cake pans.
    Bake each layer 10 to 12 minutes.
    Stack with cooked, dried apples.
