Crock Brim Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. water
    3/4 c. salt
    pinch of alum
    sprigs of dill (in between cucumbers)
    6 garlic cloves
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers and dry.
    Layer dill between cucumbers in 4-gallon crock. Boil the water and salt to a rolling boil.
    Cool slightly, then pour over cucumbers; weigh down with a plate and jug of water.
    Cover cucumbers with a towel and clear the towel when they start to ferment.
