Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    2/3 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 3/4 c. applesauce
    2 3/4 c. flour (not sifted)
    1 3/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 3/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    3/4 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. cut up dates or raisins
    1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cream sugars, shortening and eggs until light.
    Add applesauce, mixing well.
    Spoon flour measured with the soda, baking powder, salt and spices to flour, not sifted, stir well to blend.
    Add blended dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
    Stir in fruit and nuts, blend well.
    Pour into well-greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 60 to 65 minutes.
    Cool in pan.
    Dust with powdered sugar to serve, or frost with Penuche Frosting.
