Ingredients

1 1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. melted butter
1 yeast cake
1 egg, beaten
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation

Scald milk.
Add sugar and butter.
Cool.
Add dissolved yeast and egg next.
Add flour, salt and nutmeg to make a sponge.
Let rise.
Add enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
Let rise. Push down and roll out.
Cut and let rise.
Put top side down into hot fat.
Do not have fat too hot or doughnut will brown before baking.
Dip in sugar or glaze with sugar and water.
